The MSJC Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Jonathan Norton as the school's first ever women's flag football coach.
Norton joins the Eagles with nearly a decade of coaching experience at the high school level. He currently serves as the head girls flag football coach at Moreno Valley High School. He has also had the opportunity to coach tackle football at MVHS where he served as both defensive coordinator and secondary coach. His time at the high school level also includes coaching track and field as well as leading the strength and conditioning program. "Throughout these roles, I have helped build competitive programs while emphasizing teamwork and a strong work ethic", said Norton.
Prior to his coaching career Norton played Division I football at Fresno State University where he helped the team to two Mountain West Conference Championships and three Bowl game appearances. "I take pride in creating structured environments where student-athletes are challenged to grow not only as competitors but also as students and leaders in the community", added Norton. "I am highly motivated to continue building and leading successful athletic programs and am excited to bring my experience and leadership to Mt. San Jacinto College".
"We are happy to welcome Jonathan to the MSJC team", said Dean of Athletics and Student Life Patrick Springer. "I think his experience with flag football at the high school level will allow us to hit the ground running". "We are very excited to give the female student-athletes of our community another opportunity to continue pursuing their dreams to compete and we are doing it in the fastest growing sport across the state".
The new MSJC women's flag football program will start training this Fall and will compete as an "emerging sport" in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) in the Spring semester of 2027. The program will operate out of MSJC's San Jacinto Campus and is currently looking for athletes for the coming season. There will be a Fall Semester class (PEIC 161-A) offered as an introduction and training for the Spring season.
