Men's Tennis Starts Season 1-1
The MSJC men’s tennis team got their season underway with a pair of home matches this week, they defeated Porterville and lost to perennial power Orange Coast.
The MSJC men's tennis team got their season underway with a pair of home matches this week, they defeated Porterville and lost to perennial power Orange Coast.
In the season opener the Eagles dominated play against Porterville, winning 9-0. MSJC did not drop a set in the nine matches. The three doubles matches got the Eagles off to a fast start as they won all three. The number one duo of Jeremy Del Villar and Richard Silva won 8-2, while the number two pairing of Keith Norman and Nolan Carr earned an 8-1 victory. Landon Bristow and Antonio Martinez rounded out doubles with an 8-0 win.
The same six players also won their singles matches in straight sets highlighted by a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins by Norman at #3 and Martinez at #6. Bristow, Del Villar, Silva, and Carr also earned victories.
Tuesday the Eagles were able to earn two points against a very good Orange Coast team but came out on the short end of a 7-2 team score. Del Villar continued his strong start to the year with another singles win at #2 as he fought back to win after dropping the opening set. He lost the first 4-6 but came back to win 6-0 and 12-10 for the win. Carr picked up MSJC's other point at #5 winning his match 6-3 and 7-5.
The Eagles will get another crack at Orange Coast on Thursday when they travel to Costa Mesa for a 2 pm match. MSJC returns home to the San Jacinto Campus next Tuesday when they host Fullerton at two.
