MSJC Runs Past Chaffey in Conference Opener
The MSJC women’s basketball team scored just ten points in the first quarter on Saturday before exploding over the next thirty minutes to win easily over visiting Chaffey 92-36 in their conference opener.
The MSJC women's basketball team scored just ten points in the first quarter on Saturday before exploding over the next thirty minutes to win easily over visiting Chaffey 92-36 in their conference opener.
The Eagles led just 10-4 after the opening quarter but out scored the Panthers 24-11 in the second to build a 34-15 halftime lead. MSJC put the game out of reach in the third period with a 33-12 quarter that gave them a 40-point lead going into the final 10 minutes. The Eagles never trailed in the contest and forced Chaffey into 28 turnovers in the game.
Karsen Marshall scored a game-high 26 points despite a slow start, she also grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds and had 3 assists and 3 steals. Keslyn Henson added 11 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. Kohen Marshall also had 11 points in the victory and point guard Kiara Williams scored 8 points, dished out a game-high 8 assists, and made 6 steals.
The MSJC bench was also strong in the victory as they contributed 30 points with Anaya Singer scoring 8 points while Amiya Singer and Trinity Skinner both had 7. All ten players who played in the contest for the Eagles scored at least 2 points.
The Eagles, now 8-4 overall, and 1-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference games will head on the road Wednesday when they travel to Copper Mountain for a key IEAC match-up. Copper Mountain will enter Wednesday's game with a perfect 13-0 record on the season. Tip-off in Joshua Tree Wednesday is set for 5 pm.
