Eagles Start PCAC With Two Wins
The MSJC beach volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday with a pair of wins at San Diego City where they beat the Knights as well as Palomar.
The MSJC beach volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday with a pair of wins at San Diego City where they beat the Knights as well as Palomar.
In their first match of the day the Eagles defeated San Diego City 4-1. Destiny Affor and Daija Malcolm got things going in the #1 pairs match as they earned a 21-15 and 21-6 victory. MSJC also earned points at #2, #3, and #5. At #2 it was Angelina Browder and Amari Ramirez winning 21-15 and 21-10. The Eagles also grabbed two three-set wins as the #3 duo of Shannon Frary and Sophia Castro won 21-16, 17-21, and 15-11 while at #5 Jasmine Serpas and Jayden Danner battled back to earn a point after losing the first set 17-21 before rallying back to win 21-12 and 17-15.
The second match of the day was a tight one with Palomar, but the Eagles came away with a 3-2 victory. Browder and Ramirez again earned a point at #2 when they won 21-16 and 21-13. The #5 pair of Elle Scott and Danielle Malnack also picked up a straight set win 21-14 and 21-17. The team winner was decided in a highly competitive match at #3 where Frary and Castro picked up a 21-16, 19-21, 16-14 win for the Eagles.
MSJC now stands at 6-11 overall on the season, but more importantly began PCAC play at 2-0. The team will be back in action on Friday when they host both San Diego Miramar and San Diego Mesa on the Menifee Campus. The first match on Friday will begin at 9 am.
