MSJC Moves Past San Bernardino With 7-4 Win
The MSJC baseball team picked up a home victory on Tuesday against San Bernardino Valley 7-4 keeping them two games behind second place Cerro Coso with two Inland Empire Athletic Conference games left on the schedule.
The MSJC baseball team picked up a home victory on Tuesday against San Bernardino Valley 7-4 keeping them two games behind second place Cerro Coso with two Inland Empire Athletic Conference games left on the schedule.
MSJC was coming off a tough week where they dropped a pair of road games at Barstow and College of the Desert. Thursday the Eagles fell in Barstow 10-5 and Saturday they were defeated by Desert 9-3.
Tuesday the Eagles jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first with an unearned run. MSJC would add two runs in the bottom of the second with RBI singles from Will Siqueiros and Steven Felipe to move ahead 3-0. The Wolverines answered in the top of the third when they tied the game with three runs of their own. In the bottom half of the third the Eagles responded, this time taking the lead for good when they scored three times with the big hit coming from Ty Mattson on a two-run double. Dayton Thompson would add an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to help secure the victory.
Gavin Warner improved to 7-2 this season on the mound as he went eight complete innings allowing four runs, three of them earned while striking out six. Ivan Salas picked up his third save of the year with a three up three down ninth.
The Eagles are now 19-17 overall on the season and 13-9 in IEAC play the win over SBVC moved them a half game ahead of the Wolverines for third place in the league standings. MSJC will host Cerro Coso on Thursday in San Jacinto at 2:30. Coso will enter Thursday's game with a 15-7 conference record, College of the Desert has already clinched the IEAC title. The Eagles will finish league play Saturday when they host Victor Valley at 1 pm.
