The MSJC men's tennis team had one of their best performances in recent years this weekend as they qualified all six of their players for the 3C2A State Championship Tournament in Ojai.
Nolan Carr led the singles charge for the Eagles as he reached the semifinals on his way to being named to the All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference team. His qualifying win was a 7-5, 6-3 victory over College of the Desert's top player Chandra Ishikawa.
In the final round of singles qualifying Jeremy Del Villar, Landon Bristow, Jesus Guadarrama, and Richard Silva all came through with straight set wins to advance to Ojai. The most interesting match of the day was when Silva took on fellow Eagle Keith Norman. Silva was able to earn a hard-fought victory 7-5 and 6-4.
Norman would bounce right back in doubles however as he teamed with Guadarrama to become MSJC's top qualifiers as the pair earned All-Conference status with their performance. The duo went on a strong run before losing to the eventual conference champions Hunter and Thomas Lynch from San Diego City College.
The Eagles' other two doubles teams also performed well enough to qualify for Ojai. Del Villar and Silva teamed up to win a qualifying match 8-0 to punch their ticket while Bristow and Carr also advanced with an 8-0 win.
The Ojai Championships begin on Thursday April 23rd and run through the 25th. Venues will be used in Ojai, Ventura, and Oxnard.
