Men's Tennis Team Wraps Up Season at Ojai
The MSJC men’s tennis team played some strong competition over the weekend as they took part in the 3C2A State Championships at Ojai.
The MSJC men's tennis team played some strong competition over the weekend as they took part in the 3C2A State Championships at Ojai.
The Eagles had five players participating in the singles competition. Nolan Carr was able to come away with an opening round victory as he won his first match 7-5 and 6-1. He would unfortunately fall in the round of 64 to a player from Ventura 4-6 and 2-6. Landon Bristow gave himself a chance in the opening round but came up just short in a three-set match as he lost 0-6, 6-3, and 3-6. Richard Silva, Jeremy Del Villar, and Jesus Guadarrama each were awarded first round byes, but lost in the round of 64 in straight sets.
In doubles MSJC was represented by three teams with Del Villar and Silva teaming up for a first-round win over a team from Folsom College 6-2 and 6-3. In the round of 32 the pair were defeated by a strong team from College of the Sequoias 1-6 and 1-6. Keith Norman and Guadarrama also teamed up at Ojai and lost a heart breaker in the first-round as they fell to a duo from Fullerton 2-6, 6-3, and 8-10. Norman and Guadarrama battled until the very end but came up just short. Bristow and Carr also lost an opening round match 2-6 and 0-6 to a team from Chabot.
The Eagles completed their season with an overall record of 7-9, they were 4-2 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play earning them a second-place finish. This was the first time in the past five seasons that MSJC has qualified all six starters for the Ojai Tournament.
