Janssens Named IEAC Player of the Year, Four Other WBB Players Honored

Haylei Janssens, a sophomore from Riverside King High School, was named the Inland Empire Athletic Conference Player of the Year on Monday when the women's basketball all-conference team was announced.

Janssens, who earned First Team all league honors as a freshman last season, averaged 19.6 points and 13 rebounds a game throughout the regular season, she bumped her scoring average to 20.1 in IEAC games.  Janssens posted 22 double doubles during the year and scored in double figures in 27 of MSJC's 28 games this year.  She had a season best 31 points against Barstow College on January 2nd and had a career high 21 rebounds twice during the year on November 21st against Southwestern and on December 18th against Mira Costa.  Janssens also earned CCCWBCA First Team All-State honors this year, after being named to the 3rd Team a year ago.

Joining Janssens on the IEAC First Team were fellow Eagles Deja Blue and De'Adra Ross.  Blue, a freshman from Canyon Springs HS, averaged 11 points per game, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game over the course of the season and increased all those number during conference to 14, 6.3, and 5.4.  She scored a season high 28 points against Barstow on January 29th and pulled in a season best 13 rebounds against Ventura on December 29th.  Blue was also named 3rd Team All-State by the CCCWBCA, becoming just the 6th MSJC freshman to earn that honor.  

Ross a sophomore from Summit HS in Fontana was the team's second leading rebounder on the season averaging 10.4 boards a game including 11.2 during conference.  She also averaged over 7 points per game and led the team in blocked shots with 75 on the year.

Freshmen Mariah Sanchez and Haley Suarez both from Hemet High School earned Second Team All-conference honors.  Sanchez finished the regular season averaging 10.5 points per game while Suarez was at 7.4 per contest.  Sanchez made a team high 63 three point shots during the season and Suarez was second with 40 made threes on the year.

These five along with their teammates won the Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 12-0 record and finished the regular season at 26-2 overall.  The Eagles will begin the post season on Friday night when they host Pasadena City College at 7 pm.  MSJC is making their 14th straight play-off appearance.
