WBB: Eagles Win Two at VVC Invitational

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up a pair of wins at the Victor Valley Invitational over the weekend played in Barstow.

On Friday night the Eagles took on Antelope Valley for the second time this season and came away with a 68-57 victory.  MSJC led by just four at the half, but were able to push the lead to as much as 18 during the third quarter on their way to victory.  Sandee Heiermann had a big game for the Eagles as she scored a team high 16 points, grabbed a game high 16 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists to go along with 3 steals.  Jana Roman also recorded a double double as she scored 14 points and hauled in 12 rebounds.  Rayven Crook added 11 points and 3 assists in the victory.

On Saturday MSJC got off to a fast start and never looked back as they defeated Reedley College 102-41.  The Eagles set the tone early as they jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first period and led 51-22 at the half.  Heiermann had another strong showing as she scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds as she also passed out 6 assists for the second straight game.  Valeria Brewer and Jheisymae Artagame came off the bench to give MSJC a big boost as Brewer finished the game with 17 points and Artagame added 14.  Crook also reached double figures in scoring for the second straight game as she scored 15 on an efficient 6 for 10 shooting day.  Shyann Morreo added 9 points and Alexis Pina had 8 points and 8 rebounds in limited action.

The two wins improve the Eagles record on the season to 9-1.  MSJC will take on Victor Valley on Saturday at 1 pm in their Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener.  The site of Saturday's game is still pending due to construction in the Victor Valley gym.
