WBB: Second Quarter Push Leads Eagles Past Copper Mountain

The MSJC women's basketball team led by just nine points at the end of the first quarter on Wednesday night, but a 22-2 second period helped the Eagles pull away for a 89-45 win over Copper Mountain.

The Eagles built their 47-18 lead by dominating the offensive glass in the first half and giving themselves extra opportunities to score.  MSJC would go on to out score the Fighting Cacti 42-27 in the second half and finish the game with a rebounding advantage of 54-35 which included 26 offensive boards.  The Eagles also forced Copper Mountain into 30 turnovers on the night.

Alexus Williams came off the bench to spark the Eagles as she led four MSJC players in double figures with 17 points.  Jheisymae Artagame also delivered some energy off the bench as she added 14 points and 3 steals.  Jana Roman had a double double as she scored 13 and matched her season high in rebounds with 19, she also had 3 blocks and 6 assists for MSJC.  Sandee Heiermann was the fourth Eagle to score in double figures with 12, she added 6 assists and 5 steals for MSJC.  Rayven Crook got things going early as she scored all 7 of her points in the first half.

The win improves the Eagles overall season record to 16-2, they are now 4-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.  MSJC returns to action on Saturday when they travel to College of the Desert for a 1 pm game.
