The MSJC women's basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend defeating Antelope Valley and losing a tight one to Long Beach City.
The Eagles, who were hosting the 11th Annual San Jacinto Lion's Club Tip-Off Classic, opened the event on Thursday night with a dominating win over Antelope Valley. MSJC built leads of 16-7 after the first quarter and 32-16 at halftime on their way to a 73-43 victory. Karsen Marshall stuffed the stat sheet as she scored a game high 19 points, grabbed a game high 12 rebounds, dished out 8 assists, and had 7 steals. Anaya Singer just missed a double double scoring 13 points and pulling in 9 rebounds. Amiya Singer and Kiara Williams each had 9 points in the win with Williams also making 6 assists.
Friday the Eagles started slowly as they fell behind Long Beach 24-17 at the half and trailed 47-42 headed into the fourth quarter, a late comeback fell just short ending in a 62-60 loss. MSJC trailed 60-51 with just 4:09 to play in the game, before making a furious rally to tie the game at 60-60. Kohen and Karsen Marshall combined to score 9 straight points for the Eagles to tie the game with under a minute to play. Both teams missed opportunities to take the lead until Long Beach drove the length of the floor and scored the winning basket with just 3 seconds left, the Eagles did not get a final shot off before the buzzer. Karsen Marshall again led the way on offense with 20 points, Williams had 15 points and 5 assists, while Kohen Marshall added 11 points and 8 rebounds.
The Eagles now 2-1 on the season will return to action Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Comet Crossover at Palomar College. Friday MSJC will play East LA and Saturday the Eagles take on Alan Hancock. Both games this weekend will tipoff at 4 pm.
