WBB Wins Thriller, Set to Host Eagle Invitational

The MSJC women's basketball team won a thrilling two overtime contest against Palomar last week as they were playing their third straight game against a team ranked in the state's top ten.
The Eagles and Comets were tied at 65 all at the end of regulation and 73 each at the end of the first overtime before MSJC finally pulled it out 87-81 after a second extra period. The game was close throughout with 13 ties and 8 lead changes in the 50 minutes of action. In the second overtime Sonia Urbina hit a 3-pointer for MSJC with 3:04 to play giving the Eagles a 78-75 lead that they would not relinquish. Baskets by Keslyn Henson and Karsen Marshall extended the lead to 82-75 as MSJC finally took control of the game. Palomar would make one last push, closing the gap to 83-81 with 23 seconds remaining, but two free throws each by Urbina and Kiara Williams put the game away.
Karsen Marshall finished the game with 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles to lead the offense, Williams ended the afternoon with 20 points and 8 assists. Kohen Marshall and Anisa Turner also reached double figures in scoring with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The win over #6 ranked Palomar came on the heels of a tight loss (73-70) to #3 ranked Orange Coast and improved the Eagles record on the season to 5-3.
MSJC, currently ranked #13, will continue to challenge some of the best teams in the state when they host the Eagle Invitational this weekend in San Jacinto. Friday the Eagles will play Skyline, who comes into the weekend with a 7-1 record, at 6 pm and Saturday MSJC takes on #25 ranked and 6-1 Irvine Valley at 2 pm. Chaffey will also be a part of the action this weekend as they will play two hours before MSJC each day swapping opponents with the Eagles.
