Eagles Can't Overcome Cold Shooting at #6 Mira Costa

The MSJC women's basketball team saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night as they fell to #6 ranked Mira Costa 52-51 in a non-conference game.
The Eagles struggled to find their shooting range all night as they shot just 20 of 64 from the floor, 6 for 21 from three-point range, and 5 of 11 at the free throw line.
The defense did keep the Eagles in the game throughout as they led 17-13 after the opening period. The Spartans would outscore MSJC 14-9 in the second to hold a 27-26 lead at the half. Heading into the fourth quarter the teams were separated by just two points and the game stayed close in the final ten minutes. Kohen Marshall scored a basket with 5:15 to play in the game that tied the score at 46-46, a free throw by the Spartans on the ensuing possession gave them one point lead and they would not trail again. MSJC had a chance to tie the score from the free throw line with 14 seconds remaining but missed both attempts.
Kiara Williams led the Eagle offense with a game-high 18 points. Karsen Marshall and Keslyn Henson both added 9 points for MSJC, Henson also had 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Amiya Singer scored 6 points, had a game-high 12 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots.
The loss drops the Eagles overall season record to 14-5 they are still unbeaten in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play at 5-0, Mira Costa improved to 18-0. MSJC steps back into IEAC action on Saturday when they host Palo Verde at 1 pm.
