The MSJC women's basketball team came away with an unlikely victory on Wednesday night when Karsen Marshall made a half-court shot with less than one second to play to defeat Victor Valley 74-73.
The Eagles opened the contest with a 13-4 burst and led 16-12 at the end of the first period. The Rams would tie the game up by halftime at 29 and then take an 8-point lead by the end of the third quarter. MSJC began to rally slowly in the fourth quarter finally tying the game up at 69-69 with 1:38 to play to set up a dramatic finish.
Victor Valley seemed to answer every challenge as they retook the lead with a minute left and forced an MSJC turnover. With the Rams up 71-69- and 12-seconds remaining Kohen Marshall made a steal and lay-up for the Eagles to tie the game. That was just the start of the crazy finish as Victor Valley scored immediately after a time-out on a sideline out of bounds play to go back up 73-71. After an Eagle timeout MSJC turned the ball over when they stepped out of bounds in the front court, they were then forced to foul sending the Rams to the free throw line with 6 seconds left. Victor Valley missed both free throw attempts, giving the Eagles one last chance and Karsen Marshall drilled the half-court shot with 0.6 seconds left for the victory. VVC could not get a final shot off before the buzzer.
