#14 Eagles Get Big IEAC Win Over #10 CMC
The MSJC women’s basketball team seized control of the Inland Empire Athletic Conference title race on Wednesday night as they picked up a huge home win over #10 ranked Copper Mountain 81-72.
The MSJC women's basketball team seized control of the Inland Empire Athletic Conference title race on Wednesday night as they picked up a huge home win over #10 ranked Copper Mountain 81-72.
The Eagles led after every quarter on Wednesday, going ahead 20-17 after the opening period and 39-34 at halftime. MSJC pushed the lead out to 62-54, heading into the final quarter.
Karsen Marshall, the state's leading scorer, led the way with a game-high 33 points. She scored 23 of those in the first half, including 15 in the second quarter. Karsen connected on 7 three-pointers in the game and had 9 rebounds.
Kiara Williams finished the game with 21 points and a game-high 10 assists. Williams took over the third quarter where she scored 15 of her 21 on 6 of 7 shooting from the field. Kohen Marshall also finished the night in double figures with 13, she also grabbed 7 rebounds. Keslyn Henson added 6 points and 10 boards while Amiya Singer scored 8 points and hauled in 8 rebounds. Zoe Tennell led the Fighting Cacti with 28.
The win gives the Eagles a two-game lead over both Copper Mountain and Victor Valley with five games left to play in the race for the IEAC championship. MSJC improved to 18-5 overall and 9-0 in league, CMC fell to 20-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Eagles will have the weekend off before returning to action next Wednesday when they host College of the Desert. Tip-off next Wednesday is scheduled for 5 pm.
