The MSJC women's soccer team won their fifth straight match on Tuesday as they shut out Victor Valley on Sophomore Day.
The Eagles and Rams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half before MSJC took control early in the second. Lorena Gonzalez scored with an assist from Nathali Gasca in the 47th minute for the first goal of the day. Sixteen minutes later America Chavez gave the Eagles some breathing room when she added a goal with the help of another assist by Gasca. Briseida Medina made 5 saves in goal for the shutout.
The win was the team's fifth in a row and finished their Inland Empire Athletic Conference season. The Eagles who improved to 9-8-2 overall for the year and wrapped up league play at 6-3-1 will await the results of a couple final IEAC matches to determine where they finished in the conference standings. MSJC has guaranteed themselves at least a tie for second place. The Eagles also seem to be in a good position for making the 3C2A Regional Tournament. The pairings for the SoCal Regional will be announced on November 16th.
Tuesday the Eagles also celebrated their 2025 sophomore class as they played their final regular season home match. Prior to the match each of the sophomores were introduced when the team honored; Lauren Bermudez, Lorena Gonzalez, Haylee Chilton, Nathali Gasca, Maggie Arens, and America Chavez.
