The MSJC Athletic Department has named Britney Haney as the indoor volleyball program's new head coach.
Haney takes over for Serinna Eason who spent ten years leading the Eagles. Eason will continue to head the MSJC Beach program. Coach Haney has been an assistant coach with the team for the past four seasons. She inherits a program that under Eason posted a 156-100 record over the past decade and has reached the postseason six times and won four conference championships. Three of the program's league titles came with Haney on the bench in her role as an assistant.
Prior to her arrival at MSJC, Haney was the head coach at Temescal Canyon High School. During her time at Temescal she also coached both Forza and Viper volleyball clubs, where she also ran the strength and conditioning program. Over the past four seasons with MSJC Haney has been an integral part of all aspects of the program including on floor coaching, scouting, and recruiting.
Haney played Division I volleyball at Cal State University Northridge for two-time Olympic gold medalist Jeff Stork after a standout high school career at Temescal Canyon. In her first season at Northridge Britney was named to the Big West All-Freshman team and in her senior season helped the team to a conference title. She also played in the NCAA Tournament and graduated from CSUN as the program's all-time leader in sets played. Her decorated high school career included being named League MVP and All CIF among numerous other honors.
"I am very thankful that Serinna Eason called me five years ago in search of an assistant coach", said Haney. "It has been a privilege working with a great mentor and friend, I am excited to be the head coach and continue building on the great foundation that Serinna has set." "I am very excited about getting started this summer with the team and helping us move to that next level."
Dean of Athletics Patrick Springer said that he didn't have to look far when Eason told him she was going to step down. "The combination of her head coaching experience and the job she has done over the past four years as an assistant made Britney an easy choice", said Springer. "The continuity she will bring for the student-athletes should maintain our success level and keep expectations high for our program."
