MSJC Volleyball Headed to the Post Season
The MSJC volleyball team earned the #18 seed in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Tournament and will open the postseason on the road Saturday at #15 Mira Costa.
The MSJC volleyball team earned the #18 seed in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Tournament and will open the postseason on the road Saturday at #15 Mira Costa.
The Eagles will be making their seventh playoff appearance in the past nine years and their third in a row. MSJC finished the season with an overall record of 13-10, they were 7-3 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference games which earned them a third-place finish. Mira Costa enters the postseason with an overall mark of 15-10, they were the fifth-place finishers in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
MSJC and Mira Costa played back on September 10th at San Diego Miramar with the Spartans earning a 3-1 victory. The Eagles will head into the playoffs led by freshman Daija Malcolm who ended the regular season with a team best 316 kills. She was followed by Lorna Lopez with 156 kills and Tala Paige Gurganious who recorded 150. Setter Angelina Browder dished out 712 assists on the year.
Lilly Galvin paced the back row defense as she picked up a team high 250 digs for the Eagles while Malcolm was second at 205 and Sophia Castro was just behind her at 204. MSJC's defense at the net was led by Alena Magee who ended the regular season with 18 solo blocks and 43 block assists, both team highs.
The winner of Saturday's 6 pm match at Mira Costa will advance to the second round on Tuesday and will travel to #2 seed LA Mission.
