MSJC Baseball Earns Wins 29 & 30; Head to Santa Barbara For Play-Offs

The MSJC baseball team finished the 2024 regular season strong last week with a pair of home wins over Victor Valley and Chaffey to earn their 29th and 30th victories of the year.

The Eagles started the week against Victor Valley on Tuesday and after falling behind 1-0 after the first inning came back to win going away 14-1.  MSJC built the lead to 5-1 headed to the bottom of the 8th and then exploded for 9 runs to turn a tight game into a blow out.  Tanner Aoki had 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the win while Steven Kirtides hit a homerun and drove home 4 in the win.

Thursday the Eagles honored their sophomores prior to the game, and then went on to defeat Inland Empire Athletic Conference Champ Chaffey 6-4.  The game started quickly for the Eagles when Christian Smith blasted a two run homer in the bottom of the first to give MSJC the lead.  Chaffey clawed their way back into the game and took the lead 4-3 in the top of the 7th inning.  MSJC responded in the bottom of the 7th when Austin Sargent hit a two run single to re-take the lead.  Greg Luna would drive home an insurance run in the 8th to secure the victory.

The Eagles wrapped up the regular season with an impressive overall mark of 30-10, they finished runners-up to Chaffey in the IEAC with a conference mark of 19-5.

MSJC was awarded the #15 seed in the 3C2A Regional Tournament and will travel to Santa Barbara City College this weekend for a Best of 3 series.  Game one of the series is set for 2 pm on Friday.  Game two is scheduled for noon on Saturday, with game three to follow a half an hour after the conclusion of game two if necessary.
