The MSJC baseball team won two of three games this week against Barstow.
The teams started the 3-game series on Tuesday when the Vikings defeated the Eagles in San Jacinto 18-16. Steven Felipe had a team best two RBIs while 10 other MSJC hitters each drove in a run. Christian Maciel hit a solo homerun, but several Eagle comeback attempts came up short. Despite 8 errors by the Vikings and 13 hits by MSJC Barstow was able to hang on for the victory.
In game two on Thursday the Eagles traveled to Barstow and evened the series with a 12-2 win. MSJC got a strong starting pitching performance from Gavin Warner as he went 7 complete innings giving up just 2 earned runs while striking out 4. The win on the mound improved his record for the season to 4-0, he was backed up by a pair of shut-out innings from Lucas Alberoni. Alex Pintal and Dayton Thompson both hit home runs in the game, Pintal also had a double and drove home 5 runs.
Saturday's final game of the series was well pitched on both sides with the Eagles earning a walk-off 3-2 victory. Felipe earned a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning to give MSJC the win, he ended the game with 2 RBIs. Wyatt Fiedler drove in the Eagles' other run. Thompson started on the mound and threw 5 shut-out innings as he allowed just 1 hit and struck out 6. Isaiah Diaz was credited with the pitching victory as he threw 4 innings of relief giving up just 1 earned run and collecting 4 strikeouts.
MSJC is now 11-6 overall and 5-1 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play. The Eagles will play a 3-game series against College of the Desert this week with home games on Tuesday and Saturday and a trip to Palm Desert on Thursday. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
