The MSJC baseball team won two of three games this past week against Inland Empire Athletic Conference rival Cerro Coso.
The three-game series started in San Jacinto on Tuesday with a wild one where the Eagles came out on top 16-15 in ten innings. In a game that had plenty of twists and turns and took over four hours, MSJC finally grabbed the victory in the bottom of the 10th when Wyatt Fiedler ripped a double down the left field line driving home pinch runner Christian Maciel. The game featured 35 combined hits, 15 walks, and 9 hit batters. Ty Mattson had a strong day for the Eagles as he collected four hits and drove in three runs. Alex Pintal, Dayton Thompson, and Brody Boyd all had two RBIs each in the game. Boyd also blasted a homerun to left field. Gabriel Brion, the Eagles seventh pitcher of the day, earned the victory throwing the final one and a third innings and not allowing a run.
Friday in Ridgecrest it was Cerro Coso who jumped ahead early and then held on to defeat the Eagles 11-9. MSJC scored six runs in the top of the ninth, but their rally fell short. Thompson hit a homerun and drove in two more runs in the game and Zach Cedillo added a two-run triple.
In Saturday's series finale it was MSJC who jumped ahead 6-1 after two and a half innings and held on for the 11-9 win. Tylor Copeland earned the pitching victory as he threw 3 2/3 innings in relief giving up just one run. Boyd hit his second homer of the series and had three RBIs. Will Siqueiros collected three hits and drove home two.
MSJC, now 14-12 overall and 8-7 in IEAC play, will play Victor Valley three times this week starting in Victorville on Tuesday. The Eagles will host the Rams in San Jacinto Thursday before returning to VVC for game three on Saturday. Thursday's home game is set for 2:30.
