The MSJC softball team played four games on the road last week and came away with a pair of victories.
The Eagles started the week on Tuesday with a trip to San Diego Mesa for a doubleheader. MSJC ran into some solid pitching in game one as they were limited to just four hits on their way to a 4-0 loss. Vanessa Garcia had a double for the Eagles in defeat and Ellianna Pasley took the loss in the circle despite giving up just one earned run in four innings of work.
MSJC responded in a big way in the second game of the day, when they scored 11 runs on 12 hits in just five innings of play to defeat the Olympians 11-3. The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings as they pushed across five in the top of the third. They would continue to tack on to that lead in the fourth and in the top of the fifth Keyera Cameron capped off the scoring when she blasted a 3-run homer. When the game was over; Trista Clarke, Danica Perez, and Marleigh Wielinski each had 2 RBIs with Clarke picking up a game-high 3 hits. Charlotte Bayless was credited with the pitching victory.
Saturday the Eagles traveled to Citrus College where they took on the Owls as well as Orange Coast College. Game one of the day against Citrus did not go MSJC's way as they fell behind early and lost to the Owls 13-1 in a five-inning game. Wielinski had the Eagles' lone RBI of the game; she and Trinity Barnes both had two hits in the loss.
The Eagles once again bounced back to win the second game of the day and wrapped up their busy week with an 11-4 win over Orange Coast. MSJC trailed 3-2 in the top of the fourth when Malia Cordova came to the plate and drilled a grand slam to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead. Cameron added a 2-run homer in the top of the fifth as the Eagles broke the game open.
MSJC now 3-2 on the season will travel to Long Beach City on Wednesday for a 2 pm game before returning home for a doubleheader with San Diego City on Saturday. The first game Saturday on the Menifee Campus is scheduled for noon.
