MSJC Sweeps San Diego City

The MSJC volleyball team picked up a straight set victory over San Diego City on Friday to improve their record on the season to 5-6.

The Eagles started last week with a pair of matches on Wednesday hosted by San Diego Miramar. MSJC took on both the host Jets and MiraCosta.

In the MiraCosta match the Eagles lost 3-1, MSJC did win the third set. Daija Malcolm led the Eagle offense in the loss with fifteen kills, Shannon Frary knocked down thirteen for MSJC. Angelina Browder had thirty-four assists while Lilly Galvin picked up thirteen digs and Alena Magee had four block assists.

MSJC took on Miramar in the day's second contest and again were able to earn just a third set victory in a 3-1 loss. Malcolm had eleven kills this time around while Frary had nine and Lorna Lopez added seven. Sophia Castro picked up a team high twenty-two digs and Destiny Affor had twelve.

The Eagles bounced back Friday night with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of San Diego City. Malcolm again was the team leader with ten kills, Tala Paige Gurganious had seven in the victory. Browder dished out a match high twenty-six assists and Castro had a team best twelve digs.

The Eagles will be back in action twice this week as they travel to Grossmont on Tuesday and host Mt. SAC on Wednesday. Tuesday's road match will begin at 6 pm while Wednesday's home contest is set for five.
